When I was a little girl nothing was more alluring than finding a place, somewhere hidden in the trees, to build a tiny home for the fairies. Even more than a dollhouse, an outdoor world is built with magic. Stones form the walkway, twigs - a garden gate.
This tiny red bench by Janit Calvo is the perfect addition to your miniature garden. Whimsical, cheery and in that organic, earthy setting an unexpected pop of color.
Customized at Two Green Thumbs Miniature Garden Center studios in Seattle, Washington.

Dancing in the garden with torn sheets in the rain :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid in the summertime, I would hang a garden hose from a branch in my favorite magnolia tree, stand underneath the water and sing, "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair".
ReplyDeleteFalling off the backyard wall into a neighbor's garden--terrifying, magical, and very exciting to suddenly be inside a place I'd only seen through the pickets in our fence.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother's garden in very urban area of NJ! As a little girl, it seemed like she grew everything in abundance - so many vegetables and flowers mingled together! I would spend weekends at her house and we would make gallons and gallons of homemade pickles from the cucs, dill and garlic she grew. She taught me that each plant has a smell - from tomatoes, to herbs to flowers! At Easter she would crawl through the dirt to dig up a horse radish root for easter brunch (my grandfather & uncles couldn't eat their pierogies & kielbasa without it!). We kids always had competitions to see who could eat the biggest piece. After Easter, the root would go back in the ground for another year! I haven't thought about this in a long time - thanks for asking for memories!

As a child my playground was a grove of trees on my grandparents farm. I would spend hours climbing, building, pretending.... Apparently my daughter has inherited my love of outdoor play, we created a wonderful fairy garden together this year.

I liked using green bean leaves as "badges" (they stuck like Velcro). Hydrangea petals were perfect for "painting" our fingernails and honeysuckle flowers had the sweetest "syrup" among other delights in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog and remember helping my mom plant seeds in our garden as a child. Beautiful bench:) Thanks!

I can remember swinging on the vines on the lot next to our house. We played "Tarzan" all day long in the summers. Then we would pick muskadine grapes and eat them until we were stuffed.
ReplyDeleteOMG I love that bench. My favorite memory growing up was gardening in our backyard. After that we could make either applesauce or make a salad with all the veggies we picked. I was lucky to be raised on farm land is the suburb. I deff learned what working hard was.

My grandfather was a gardener, and my best childhood memories involve him out in the backyard, harvesting snap peas or corn. I was mesmerized by the magic of nature thanks to him!

When I was young we had so many flowers and different types of trees. I loved spring and would pick tulips, lilacs, forsythia and anything I could find. I just loved the fragrances and the beautiful delicate flowers. I was in my own little world. So long ago.
